Arabian Epic – Jordan Stage Race
Distance: 45KM, Elevation: 912M
This stage is a nice opener and provides a lot of elevation loss as we start making our way towards the lowest point on earth – the Dead Sea.
Early morning drive to the west of Amman where we commence the first stage of the race in the heart of urban life. Shortly after the urban section, we cycle through Iraq al-Amir (“Caves of The Prince”). It is the name shared by the town and nearby caves, within the municipality of Amman in the Jordan Valley. It is marked by the partially restored palace (known colloquially as Qasr Al-Abd, (literally, “Palace of the Servant”) perhaps an ironic reference to the name etched in the caves nearby, believed to be the name of the owner of said estate.
After passing through Iraq Al Amir, the terrain changes dramatically from green farmland to the arid hills bordering the Jordan Valley. It is a spectacular experience that guides you to the finish line at Kafrein Dam. There is a short bus transfer to the Holiday Inn Resort at the Dead Sea , the lowest point on earth.
