Detailed Description About the Tour
Cycling from Amman to Kafrein Dam over Iraq Al-Ameer is one of the most beautiful and diverse trips you can do. We start our journey on asphalt roads, cycle up hills, visit some ancient ruins, go offroad, cross a creek, and drive through desert terrain until reaching a dam. It probably can’t get any more diverse than that. Join us for an exciting cycling trip.
We leave from Amman near the King Hussein Park and then cycle up a steep hill towards Fuheis. From there the way leads to Bayader. The next adventure is to cycle off-road along a small creek. Here we might have to overcome some small obstacles. We will then cycle for some time through and next to the water. Then the road leads down towards Qasr Al-Abed along the Kafrein Valley. Al-Abed is a Hellenistic palace believed to be built 200 BC. It is a fairly small place to visit but kept and restored very well. We will have a short break and some time to discover the ruins from around and inside.
After visiting Qasr Al-Abed, we cycle up some hills again, and then slowly the terrain changes. We will leave the asphalt and continue on gravel roads. Also, the vegetation around us will change as it gets more sparse before it eventually disappears. While cycling in the rough dry landscape you might even discover some camels. Our way goes further down as we are approaching the Jordan Valley. Our journey finally stops at the Kafrein Dam, where we take some time for stretching and a snack.
The tour from Amman to Kafrein Dam is an intermediate cycling route with a mix between on-road and off-road. The route will start at Dabouq near the King Hussein Bin Talal mosque/passing through Bayader and Iraq Al-Ameer village to Al-Abed castle. After two major uphills, we will start the off-road until the finish at Al Kafrein Water Dam.
This amazing site is a little off the beaten track but we'll worth the drive.
The building is a marvel & wonder of engineering, determination & sheer strength; the lion, panther & eagle carvings on the exterior walls are highlights.
