The starting point is Al Beidha, better known as Little Petra. It belongs to one of the world's most famous archaeological sites and is only 240km (149 mi) south of Amman and 120km (74.6 mi) north of the red sea town of Aqaba.
The ancient archaeological site is located only 9 kilometers from Wadi Musa, the entry point for the World UNESCO site of Petra. Admittedly, little Petra is a far less visited site compared to Petra; nevertheless, it is a beautiful and peaceful atmosphere worth exploring.
Wadi Faynan was originally one of the biggest copper mines in the Roman Empire and one of the three primary copper mines in the world. Faynan is located south of the Dead Sea and east of Wadi Araba. Nowadays, a part of the wadi falls under the Dana Biosphere Reserve, including eco-hotels and lodges under the supervision of the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN). However, for a long time, the Natural Resource Authority in Jordan scouted and assessed the area in the hope that enough copper could be found in the mountains, providing the nation with much-needed natural resources.
Wadi Faynan and its neighbor Wadi Ghuweir are known for their rich diversity in sandstones, waterfalls, gardens of palm trees, and narrow gorges.
