The ride starts at Wadi Rum, a desert known as the Valley of the Moon that feels like Mars on Earth. Located around 60km (37 mi) to the east of the red sea town of Aqaba lies the dramatic desert characterized by its vast sandstone mountains and granite rocks, which reach 1700 meters (5577 ft) and higher. Narrow canyons and deep splits reveal water sources, and ancient rock drawings carved by the people of the desert can all be found in Rum's mountains. Many human cultures have inhabited the rock formations of Rum since prehistoric times. The Bedouin tribes featuring large goat-hair tents are the latest and still living in the desert.

The finishing point is Aqaba, the Jordanian port city located on the Red Sea Gulf of Aqaba. The city has been inhabited since 4000 B.C. and has been a strategic point for copper production and trade in the Chalcolithic period. During Byzantine rule, it became a bishopric, a district under a bishop's control. The Islamic conquest of the ancient city of Elath happened around 650 AD, and its name changed to Ayla. However, it wasn't until late medieval times that the town became known as Aqaba. The city is notorious for the Great Arab Revolt's Battle of Aqaba, where the Arab forces won over the Ottoman defenders. Nowadays, the Aqaba strengthens Jordan's golden triangle tourism with Wadi Rum and Petra. Yet, as the only seaport in the country, industrial and commercial activities remain crucial.

Next, we will cross Titen village, followed by a 5km (3.1 mi) section on-road. From there, an off-road will lead us to the main road, which is rewarded by a nice descent down the Aqaba.
